"In My Dreams" by Cameo Renae

SERIES: Stand-alone

PUBLISHER: Cameo Renae
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Review copy received from the author

It was happening again. The dreams. The nightmares. It was something seventeen year-old Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hayes thought she'd outgrown; dreams that would come true; detailed premonitions of how people would die. This time she dreams about her boyfriend, Michael Young, and soon discovers that he's been found... dead. Michael hasn't crossed over because he was murdered, and now his murderer is coming for Lizzy. His spirit won't rest until she is safe, and as a newbie spirit, the easiest way for him to make contact is through Lizzy's dreams. When she dreams, it's as if he hasn't died. Lizzy must learn to pull on her inner strength to survive horrifying events. Meanwhile, in the spirit world, Michael learns everything he can about his supernatural gift to help. But will it be enough to save her?

From the very first pages I found myself totally involved with the story and the main characters. I have to say that there was a particular scene that reminded me of the movie "Ghost"... But it was just a scene and the story here is completely different. Michael and Lizzy are great, it's impossible not to see how their love is deep and how they're connected with each other. When Michael is in her dreams there are lovely moments and sad ones but what I liked most of these times together was watching the two of them to behave like a pretty couple that makes jokes, has so much fun and knows perfectly each other! They'll always be in love and bound despite the tragic event that keeps them apart...

The whole situation is tormenting and for the reader is like to be a real witness. Sometimes the atmosphere is scary, sometimes is touching and there's a mix of emotions that flows through you while reading the book that doesn't let you put it down. I love the way the author wrote her story a lot, everything is so fluent and I found particularly well chosen the slang she used just for the bad guy, it gives him the right tone of voice tipically of a tough guy. It's all very well written!

Thanks to Cameo Renae for sending me the book with a lovely dedication, I'm looking forward to read your next book!

"Legacy" by Kate Kaynak

SERIES: Ganzfield #3

PUBLISHER: Spencer Hill Press
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Borrowed from Franny @ Mind Reader

Maddie has more problems than the average seventeen-year-old: A psychotic killer with superpowers wants her dead. A serious medical issue makes a "normal" life impossible for her. And she's about to be introduced to Trevor's grandparents. Guess which one freaks her out the most? The Ganzfield series continues in this third installment.

In my review for "Adversary" I said the second book was the proof that when a series has such a strong potential, every book gets better and better! Well, I'm pleased to tell you that I was so damn right!

Let me start from the cover... In my opinion all of them are simply perfect for the concept of the books! Said that, what about this one in particular? When you pick up the book you find yourself staring at the cover for several mins wondering: "Are you kidding me?" - a few minutes later: "Is it really what I think this is about?". And the answer is... Read the book because you seriously can't imagine it at all!

The thing I always love and hate at the same time is that I just have time to say "I like this character!" and you can be sure that something is definitely gonna happen to him/her... Frustrating but even so amazing, don't you agree? I really don't like when things are too easy, when it's all too expected and thank God with Kate Kaynak and her characters that's not possible! To be honest in every book of Ganzfield series there's the element of surprise but in this instalment I found it particularly intriguing... I think your wondering and wondering about the characters involved in the action is what really keeps your heart throbbing, what helps you staying focused on the events and what renders so special this reading. And of course Maddie and her condition...

I'd say "Legacy" is my fave book of the series, but I have to wait to affirm that because you can never say never with Kate and what she keeps by... And trust me when I say that in the world there are not enough charms to stop you from reading this series!

"Coyote Night" by Danielle D. Smith

SERIES: Black Dog and Rebel Rose #2

PUBLISHER: Danielle D. Smith
GENRE: Erotica/Paranormal
SOURCE: Review copy received from the author

Skriker, half-demon bad boy, and his Nephil love, Rose, are inseperable. They've been through thick and thin, thin and thinnerand the hunt is calling them once again. Rumor of a skinwalker draws the notorious pair to Shiprock, New Mexico, a place sacred to the Navajo and a site of enormous supernatural power. The classic Route 66 awaits them and their Harleys, as do open stretches of desert where they can camp under the stars and rut like horny teenagers…the chance of slaying the skinwalker is simply the icing on Skriker’s gore-soaked cake. But when they finally cross paths with the enemy, the ancient desert monster develops an insatiable desire to capture Rose and posess herleaving Skriker fighting with all he's got to keep the love of his life from being snatched from his arms forever.

This book is the sequel of Rose and Skriker’s story from the first novel called "Black Dog and Rebel Rose". I was contacted by the author for a review about "Coyote Night" and I hadn't read the first novel so I was afraid I wouldn't be involved as I should but it was totally the opposite! Of course it would be better to read them in order so, be sure to grab them both, the reading can be done anyway, the book contains a story in itself but trust me, when you read about Skriker and Rose you wanna know how everything started!

Daniell D. Smith did a great job with the cover and an amazing one with the writing. The Navajo culture is totally new for me but I liked it a lot and honestly now I'd love to know more about. The descriptions of the places, the characters and the fights are really accurate and they allow you to see only sharp images, that's why I found myself thinking I was actually living the story! There is suspance and a charming dark atmosphere that together with Skriker and Rose's passion completely absorb the reader and Gosh, I can't help myself, I have to say this, when you read they're having sex you wish they'd never stop...

Reading this short novel is like watching an episode of your fave tv series, when you reach the end you wait eagerly for the next one!

"Darkness Unbound" by Keri Arthur

SERIES: Dark Angels #1

GENRE: Urban Fantasy
SOURCE: ARC received from the publisher

Risa Jones is as extraordinary as her heritage. Born from a lab-enhanced clone mother and an Aedh father, she can not only talk to the souls of the dying and the dead, but she can see the reapers and walk the gray fields that divide this world from the next. They are skill she rarely uses, however, preferring to concentrate on the business she shares with her two best friends. But when her mother asks her to help the parents of a little girl locked in a coma, she reluctantly agrees. What she discovers scares the hell out of her. Because the little girl’s soul no longer resides in her body, and it wasn’t death and the reapers that took her. Someone had ripped her soul from her flesh. As it turns out, a creature consuming the souls of the innocent–and not so innocent–is the least of her problems. Because someone wants to rip open the gates that divided hell from earth, and Risa is a key component in their plans. And the only person standing between her and disaster is a reaper who isn’t exactly on her side.

I remember Risa when she was just a baby and how much I liked her and how many times I laughed with her scenes with Riley! When I was reading the last book I thought how great it would have been to see her grow up and then I read the news Keri Arthur was going to write an entire series about this amazing character and I was in heaven!

One of the most amazing things of this new series is that we can see how all the characters we loved in Riley Jenson Guardian series have developed after so many years, what they do now, what their lives are. Reading about them was a total jump in the past and a surprise under many aspects I'm not gonna write because I don't wanna ruin the pleasure to discover them... Anyway, it's good to see they're back in your life again and you haven't lost them forever!

There are laughs, cries, moments of great action, sexual tension and of course sex as well, even if for a moment I thought it was weird read about Risa having sex... But then she's not the baby we used to know anymore, huh? She's a grown up girl, beautiful, strong, powerful, with an excellent nose for the danger and a particular desire to do the opposite thing that everybody tells her to do because it could be dangerous... You got her, she's more like Aunt Riley than Mom Dia. And she has some amazing friends, a charming lover and a so gorgeous, interesting reaper that personally I loved more than anyone...

Fan of Riley Jenson Guardian series be prepared to a new, amazing series with Risa Jones and the most amazing team you ever met!

"Trial by Fire" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

SERIES: Raised by Wolves #2

PUBLISHER: Quercus Publishing
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Purchased Paperback

Bryn is now alpha of the Cedar Ridge Pack—although it's not simple when you're a human leading a band of werewolves. Then she finds a teenage boy bleeding on her front porch. Before collapsing, he tells her his name is Lucas, he's a Were, and Bryn's protection is his only hope. But Lucas is part of another alpha's pack and Bryn has no right to claim him. As danger closes in, Bryn will have to accept that to be alpha, she will have to give into her animal instincts and become less human. And she's going to have to do it alone.

I remember how much I liked the first instalment of this series and I was very excited to read this second book. Now that I finished it I'm disappointed...

I don't know how is it possible to have loved "Raised by wolves" so much and then dislike this one... Let me explain, the the story is interesting but the main problem is with the emotions... I felt nothing. I didn't feel the same passion of the first book, I didn't find myself laughing, crying, anything at all, I just kept reading to know what was going on but there were different times where I would have put this book down because it was annoying me pretty much not to be emotionally involved... But since it's difficult for me to give up a book when I start the reading, like it or not I have to finish it and that's what I did.

What else can I say? Probably I found more interesting the first book thanks to Callum. He's the strongest character in my opinion and the one who really makes the reading interesting in an emotional level, but here he has a minor role so... Plus, I can't stand Bryn and Chase, I really just can't, and there's nothing you can say to change my mind, I don't think he's right for her.

"Bullet" by Laurell K. Hamilton

SERIES: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #19

GENRE: Urban Fantasy
SOURCE: Purchased Paperback

My name is Anita Blake and I try very hard to live a normal life in St Louis—as normal as possible for someone who is a legal vampire executioner and a US Marshal. But then a vampire from my past reaches out. She was supposed to be dead, but the Mother of All Darkness is the first vampire, the dark creator, and it's hard to kill a god. She believes that the triumvirate created by master vampire Jean-Claude with me and the werewolf Richard Zeeman has enough power for her to regain a body and to emigrate to the New World. But the body she wants to possess is already taken; I'm about to learn a whole new meaning to sharing my body, one that has nothing to do with the bedroom. And is she can't succeed in taking over my body for herself, she means to see that no one else has the use of it, ever again...

There are almost all the characters we know, surely the one I love the most, some new and one in particular that probably could have been forgotten but not in my case, I asked myself about him often to be honest and that's why for me it was a great pleasure reading a little bit about him! And speaking of characters, I'm disappointed about Asher. I haven't liked his behavior for a while and I seriously don't like it at all now. I can understand his complex but he sounds so childish about it sometimes and he's very annoying... But, where Asher has changed for the worse, Richard has changed for the better! I wouldn't say he's the Richard we knew in the past, in fact I think he's someone completely new, different, with a better attitude and OMG a man of action! Well Ulfric, about time! Should I declare my love for you is coming back, Richard? Uhmm, let's just wait a little more, just to be sure...

This book is full of surprises, suspense and of course sex! I have to say I can't see why people keep writing so many reviews complaining about it when sex is a foundamental key in Anita's world. I'm ok with the fact that you like to read about a certain kind of sex or not but that's not my point. What I'm trying to say is that yes, the books have changed since the very first ones but you should have understood that by now so, why keep reading this series if you can't accept the fact that men have a bigger space than the job stuff? Why keep trying to find an old version of the story if it's pretty clear that Laurell K. Hamilton won't change all this because she's happy with it? It's a personal taste, of course, but when you decide to read a book like this you already know what you're gonna find so, if you keep reading the series it's because you really love the entire evolution or, in my personal opinion, you should have stopped a long time ago.

"Hush, Hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick

SERIES: Hush, Hush #1

PUBLISHER: Simon & Schuster Childrens Books
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Borrowed from Franny @ Mind Reader

When Nora and Patch are forced together as lab partners, Nora would rather fall to her death than put up with his elusive answers to her questions, his teasing, and his infuriatingly handsome face and hypnotizing eyes. It seems Patch was put on earth just to drive her crazy. But before long, Nora's defences start to break down as her curiosity about Patch heats up.Why does he always seem to be wherever she is and know exactly what she's thinking? How does he know what to say to both attract and repulse her? And what is up with those V-shaped scars on his chiseled back?  As their connection grows stronger, Nora's own life becomes increasingly fragile. Nora needs to decide: Is Patch the one who wants to do her harm or the one who will keep her safe? Has she fallen for one of the fallen?

I was looking forward to reading this book and when my best friend told me it was one of the best readings she had done this year, describing it like something I'd surely appreciate a lot, I couldn't resist anymore...

I can't understand how it is possible to criticize this book, it's simply amazing! I loved the plot very much and the scary, mysterious, fascinating atmosphere that makes so difficult to put this book down even for a sec. It all sounds like an horror/thriller movie and let me say that I wouldn't be surprised if there was a real movie about it, in fact I think it would be spectacular to see this story on the big screen!

The characters are all well defined and of course there is someone who I didn't like at all but if in a book there were all great characters wouldn't it be annoying? It doesn't happen often but in this case I have to say I felt particularly close to the main character, Nora. It could be for the anemia? Sure thing, and add some of her personality to the list and you'll have a first idea of who is writing this review... Then there's Patch... Let me get this straight: badass, hot, mysterious with lots of that sarcasm that gives you goose bumps... Probably it's just me, but I found him more like an Adult character than a YA one and that was the real, pleasant surprise! I dare all of you girls not to fall in love with him from the very beginning!

So Becca Fitzpatrick, it seems to me like the two of us will spend a good quality time together, thanks to your books!

"Sleeping Beauty Vampire Slayer" by Maureen McGowan

SERIES: Twisted Tales #2

PUBLISHER: Silver Dolphin Books
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Purchased Paperback

In this thrilling story full of adventure and romance, Sleeping Beauty is more than just a lonely princess waiting for her prince—she's a brave, tenacious girl who never backs down from a challenge. With vampire-slaying talent that she practices in secret, Sleeping Beauty puts her courage to the test in the dark of night, fighting evil as she searches for a way to break the spell that has cut her off from her family. In a special twist, you will have the opportunity to make key decisions for Sleeping Beauty and decide where she goes next - but no matter the choice, the result is a story unlike any fairy tale you've ever read!

When I was a child I remember I used to read some "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, the ones in which you have a few options you can choose from until you arrive to an alternative ending. Why am I telling you this? Because during this novel there are three times where you have to decide which path to take (in total there are eight different routes through the book), but in this case it doesn't matter which one you choose, the ending will always be the same. I don't know about you but I always loved "Choose Your Own Adventure" books and that's why I found this novel so fascinating to read!

I couldn't help myself and since "Sleeping Beauty" is my favourite Disney animation, I imagined everything like a cartoon! The book is written in a style that helps that kind of imagination, but the story and the characters were totally different from what you see on the big screen or what you read before about this tale, and despite the plot that was intriguing, I have to say that I'm disappointed especially about a couple of things... First of all the villain... Nothing compares to Maleficent (for me the best, scariest villain ever!). Then let me say that, animation or not, I've never met a couple of parents so childish!

Anyway, it was a pleasurable, quick reading, I enjoyed it and it was a lovely remind of my childhood with my fave tale and reading style.

"Succubus Blues" by Richelle Mead

SERIES: Georgina Kincaid #1

GENRE: Paranormal Romance
SOURCE: Paperback gifted by a friend

When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical? But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid's life is far less exotic. At least there's her day job at a local bookstore—free books; all the white chocolate mochas she can drink; and easy access to bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can't. But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at work in Seattle's demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won't help because Georgina's about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny...

This was the first time I read a book by Richelle Mead and surely it won't be the last! A friend of mine told me about this series—she's a huge fan of this author—and talked about it in such a passionate way that didn't leave me indifferent at all. But the truth is that I didn't know what I was really expecting from this book until I read the first chapters and then I couldn't be able to stop thinking about how fascinating it was!

The plot is great even if I had already solved a big part of the mistery at some point... But I wouldn't focus on that, what I'd love to emphasize is that I don't know if are the embarrassing situations that keep happening to Georgina (and believe me, they're more realistic than you can imagine) or all the dialogues between her and the various characters, but I couldn't help it and laughed every time because of the funny atmosphere! I felt close to Georgina and I found it amazing as much as the male characters. They're pretty different form each other but they all have some charming characteristics and it's difficult to have a real aversion to anyone of them. But then of course there are a couple that I particularly liked, the one who I loved the most and one that gained a special sympathy...

This book looks like the first of a great series and I'm looking forward to reading it in all its entire charm.

"Adversary" by Kate Kaynak

SERIES: Ganzfield #2

PUBLISHER: Spencer Hill Press
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Borrowed from Franny @ Mind Reader

Things are more dangerous than they seem at Ganzfield, and not everyone will survive. Does Maddie have what it takes? See what happens next in the sequel to Minder.

There is lots of drama in this book, so many things happen and at some point I read the most unexpected scene ever... One that left me completely shocked! In fact I'd say that shock is the word that describes better the weapon Kate Kaynak used writing this intense sequel.

If you thought that the relationship between Maddie and Trevor couldn't grow more you have no idea how you were wrong. In my review for "Minder" I said I had a problem with this relationship because of their falling in love too quick and too easy, but in this book I have to admit that I didn't have any kind of problem reading how deeply in love they are. Probably it helped a lot the sensual tension between the two of them... Don't get this wrong, there's nothing "physical" (yet) but the energy they exchange, their constantly soulmating is more and more deeper and sensual. Sometimes I even found their quotes in their private moments very funny!

"Adversary" is the proof that when a series has such a strong potential, every book gets better and better!

RATING: 4.5/5
