I totally loved this novella and the sci-fi trait was a real, great revelation! Kitty Thomas built an intriguing futuristic society on a different planet, where humans and monsters inhabit different areas and have very different cultures. Surprise, surprise, the monsters' one is way far better. It's scary to find yourself more in syntony with them, but believe me, their traditions and reasoning completely make sense and these creatures are really unique and fascinating. I loved when Master put his wings around Annabelle, his mate, a really beautiful image that can be read like protective, possessive or why not, both of them. After all, aren't these two main characteristics of a Master?
I devoured "The Auction" in a couple of hours and yes, I was about to start re-reading it again because of OMG-Monster-Masters... A girl, a cave, two brothers, Master (the sadistic one) and Sir, then a series of kinky-hot things that put you in that psychological twist that Kitty Thomas knows how to use so well every single time, and if you really explore it and manage to embrace it, then you're done. There is no escape, monsters or not (but always blushing a lot) Kitty's books are a superb pleasure to read.
