"Forgiven" by Jana Oliver

SERIES: The Demon Trappers #3

PUBLISHER: MacMillan Children's Books
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Purchased
LINKS: Goodreads | Book Depository

Hell's finest are ruling the streets and it seems that Armageddon might be even closer than Riley Blackthorne imagined. But with her soul and her heart in play it's all she can do to keep herself alive, let alone save the world. Riley's not afraid of kicking some major demon butt, but when it comes to a battle between Heaven and Hell, she might need a little help...

I can't help myself, every time I finish a book of this series you can be absolutely sure to find me in a complete ecstasy state and with a really urgent feeling to read the next one! Now, I definitely think this third book is the best instalment so far and of course the fact that I'm in love with Beck is another story... I mean, it all started as usual, a male character is introduced, you think he's cool, then you start liking him (a lot) and with the second book you're dreaming about him. Then the third book comes and you realize this character is so beautifully Beck that you have to hug him and never let go of him! Jana Oliver has this power of making me feel like a teenager in love and in my opinion she really has created one of the best male characters in a YA series!

The most beautiful part to read about for me was Riley and Beck relationship/development. The constant tension and frustration that devour the two of them gives you the right push to keep reading more and more until you find what everyone (characters included) is hoping for. Because you desperately need those two to be together, they have to, right? I will never be tired to say that their dialogues are amazingly written and when they have a conversation, it doesn't matter if they're arguing or simply humoring each other, they always clearly finish doing a declaration of love, and the passion they put in their words is touching and involving.

I love the whole story, the action is amazing as much as the unexpected Good and Evil aspects... Riley made mistakes, but would you be so sure you wouldn't have done some of them? And is Evil JUST Evil and Good SO Good?... I'm so addicted to The Demon Trappers Series that I can't imagine I have to say goodbye soon, but at the same time I can't wait for that magic fourth book to be in my hands!

How to connect with Rebecca:

For those who don't know about the book, I invite you to check my review, while here you can read the book summary: Sophia Parsons’ family has skeletons, but they aren’t in their graves... Solving the mystery of an ancestor’s hanging might silence the clashing whispers in Sophia's mind, but the cult in her town and the supernaturals who secretly reside there are determined to silence her first. As Sophia unknowingly crosses the line into an elemental world full of vampire-like creatures, shapeshifters, and supernatural grim reapers, she meets Charles, a man who becomes both lover and ally. But can she trust him? It’s not until someone nearly kills Sophia that she realizes the only way to unveil the source of her family's curse: abandon her faith or abandon her humanity. If she wants to survive, she must accept her who she is, perform dark magic, and fight to the death for her freedom.

You can purchase the book on:
Amazon - Barnes & Noble

(+ special guest appearance)

Silvia (already blushing): Charles, welcome to Darkest Sins! Would you like to introduce yourself to this amazing audience?

Charles (laughing): My, Silvia. You look flushed! Hot day today? (to amazing audience, waves his hand) Hey, I'm Charles.

Silvia (embarrassed): Yeah, you're- *cough* It's kinda HOT. (focus, Silvia, focus!) So, how are things going with Sophia?

Charles (grasping Sophia's hand): Wonderful. (looking to Sophia) Really wonderful.
Sophia (smiling at Charles, then Silvia): Things have been great, Silvia. We've been preparing for everything that lies ahead of us, and while some of those things are frightening, Charles has been strong through it all and that has helped with my faith and confidence.
Charles (terrified, but not letting it show): No use living in fear of the things you cannot escape. We'll get through it. My relationship with Sophia has taught me that life is less about what happens and more about what you do about it and who you do it with.
Sophia (grinning): (No pun intended.)

Silvia (smirking): Like stalking each other?

Sophia: Hey, you would have thought so, too! He kept showing up everywhere I went.
Charles (to Sophia): You mean you kept showing up everywhere I already was.
Sophia: Well, I didn't know you were there.
Charles (leaning closer to Sophia to whisper while patting her knee): Sure thing, darlin'. Whatever you say.
Sophia (clears her throat): I think Silvia's trying to ask you another question.

• Silvia (winking to Sophia): Charles, I'm curious, do you have any favourite shapeshifting form?

Charles: An owl. I enjoy flight, and it's a form that doesn't draw suspicion. There's also a comfort in the illegality of hunting birds of prey.

Silvia: You've been around for a while so, I suppose you could tell me a decade you particularly loved as well?

Charles: Hard to choose. I've experienced many the rise and fall of many great and horrible things over the years. If I had to choose, perhaps I would say the 1960s in America. It was great to see people standing up for equality, something my world still battles with today. Many died for the cause. That time remains an inspiration to me.

Silvia: Ok, you earned an easy question, one that I know you're anxiously waiting for... (grinning) What drives you crazy about Sophia?

Charles (cupping hands over Sophia's ears): She snores!
Sophia (play slaps his arm)
Charles (laughing): Really, it's so many things. Her sense of humor, the way she always stands up for what she believes in. Most of all, though, it's her persistence that drives me crazy. You could say I have a love/hate relationship with her persistence. But I have to admit, sometimes I could kick myself for not listening to her.
Sophia: See! You should listen to me more often.
Charles (raising eyebrows and nodding his head with sarcasm): Uh-huh. Sure....
Sophia (giving Silvia a knowing look): Poor guy. He's so conflicted. It's like there's two sides to him.
Charles: There is two sides to me!
Sophia (to Silvia, smiling): Well, at least you sort of got a straight answer out of him.

Silvia (smiling back to Sophia): I feel so privileged! By the way everyone has their faults, someone is persistent and someone (looks at Charles) is clearly a stalker. (gives a high five to Sophia)

Sophia (high fives back, laughing).
Charles: I was there first! (laughs). Sophia, on the other hand, seems to daydream about people watching her sleep.
Sophia: Uh, no! And take today for example. I definitely got to this interview first, and then YOU showed up.
Charles: Nice try. I was holding the door for you, princess.
Sophia: But I reached the door first, remember? You had to reach around me to open the door.
Charles: Forgive me for not being in a rush every where we go.
Sophia: You're forgiven. (grins) (To Silvia): I think he secretly likes it when I give him a hard time.

Silvia (laughing): Definitely! (smiling at Charles) Now come on Charles, surprise us all with a lovely, spontaneous (grins) compliment to Sophia!

Charles: You complete me.
Sophia: Dr. Evil got to that one first. Try again.
Charles: I guess "I like your eyes" is out of the question, too?
Sophia (nodding): Mmmhmm.
Charles: There's no one like you.
Sophia: Scorpions beat you to it.
Charles: Silvia said to compliment you; she didn't say I had to be original. Now it's not spontaneous anymore. (frowns). You're lucky you're cute.
Sophia (grins): There you go! Now just tell me you love me for my mind and we'll be good to go!

Silvia (trying to be casual): Okeeeey. My bad, I should concentrate on Charles. (don't go there, don't go there..) Not that I don't. (oh-oh, awkward moment) I mean, of course I think about you, Charles. (danger, DANGER!!) I didn't mea-... You know what? Let's talk about Adrian. You two seem very close, how would you describe your friendship with him?

Charles: Adrian is my right hand man. I trust him with my life and see him as I would a brother.

Silvia: A trustworthy friend, an irreplaceable girlfriend... Is there a place for a pretty-amazing/unique interviewer in your life? (winks)

Charles: Silvia, you are shameless (smiles). There's always room for more friends.

Silvia (smiling and blushing): Trust me, I am not... (blushing harder) But to recall my blog title, (smirks) do you have any darkest sins to share, Charles?

Charles: I've already shared many of my transgressions with Sophia, but there is one I share with Sophia. We both lie by avoidance. If I don't want to share the truth, I will usually find another related truth to share that steps around the question itself. I've caught Sophia doing the same.
Sophia: Sometimes the truth hurts, and I don't want to hurt anyone.
Charles: Right. (looks at Sophia) And sometimes we don't want to hurt ourselves. Self-preservation can lead people to do all kinds of things they'd wish they hadn't. (Shifts a very serious gaze to Silvia.) How far do you think a sin can go before it can no longer be forgiven?

Silvia (being serious): Every sin is different just like their contests and the people involved so, it's hard to tell. But if you're asking ME, I'm afraid not so far, Charles... But I genuinely think you guys are balancing this whole avoidance well so, shall we go with we're madly in love so even if Charles is incapable of making a real compliment I will forgive him everything? (smiles and winks to Sophia)

Charles: We are. (smiles at Sophia). Sophia's presence has given my life new meaning and purpose. I feel more alive with her than I have in centuries.

Silvia: You are absolutely one of the most beautiful couples ever! Thank you so much for being such a great guest, Charles and (shifts to Sophia) of course thanks for deciding to join us, Sophia. You guys made me a lovely early birthday present! Yes, it's on April 4th and I'm going to be 30th so, not quite young like you but hey, I'm still pretty good, ain't I? (winks and then laughs)

Charles: Actually, I'm quite a bit older than you. (grins) Thank you for inviting us, and I hope your birthday is wonderful.
Sophia: Thanks for having us. Have a great birthday, too. I never would have guessed thirty. (smiles)

"The Forever Girl" by Rebecca Hamilton

SERIES: Forever Girl #1

PUBLISHER: Immortal Ink Publishing
GENRE: NA Paranormal
SOURCE: Author
LINKS: Goodreads | Book Depository

Sophia Parsons’ family has skeletons, but they aren’t in their graves... If she wants to survive, she must accept who she is, perform dark magic, and fight to the death for her freedom.

Most of the times some events become clear to me at some point during the reading, and that's why unfortunately the element of surprise loses its effect on me. Now imagine my deep joy to discover myself totally surprised from the beginning to the end of this book. Seriously, I think it's practically impossible to guess anything and the very amazing thing is that there is not one time in which you can say "I would have preferred another explanation".

The vampire-like creatures here have nothing to do with the ones we usually read about. Their special supernatural powers are surely fascinating, but their origins are what really capture you and leave you stunned with the charming explanation behind, and the great care for every detail makes you love everything even more.

The whole story is simply beautiful and one of the strongest keys of this beauty is that YA meets finally Adult. This book is a perfect example of how the two genres can be mixed together and the author did an amazing job balancing them. Do you think all the flirting moments with a high sexual tension are great, but an outstanding sex scene wouldn't be so wrong in the matter? Welcome to Rebecca Hamilton's world, where sex is a natural course of a young couple in love and a sex scene can be so-passionately-OMG-good. But if you think that's all you have to expect from Charles and Sophia then you're wrong. There are moments where you can't control yourself and start laughing because yes, those two are a real pleasure to read about, thanks to their fun (sarcastic sometimes) flirting attitude.

"The Forever Girl" is a stunning first instalment of a series I can't wait to know more and more about! Rebecca Hamilton, I love your story, your writing style is gorgeous and I think you're definitely one of the best new authors of 2012!

"Destiny Redeemed" by Gabrielle Bisset

SERIES: The Destined Ones #2

PUBLISHER: Gabrielle Bisset
GENRE: Paranormal Romance
SOURCE: Freebie
LINKS: Goodreads

Sentenced to spend the rest of his three remaining lifetimes in Nil, Amon Kalins is freed with the help of his Sidhe servant, Gethen, but now he must accept his life is never to be his again as the Council won't rest until he's safely back imprisoned within Nil's cold walls. Broken and nearly dead from his time in prison, Amon is saved by an Aeveren healer named Althea Forester. As a healer, Thea has served her people for forty-five lifetimes, never having a destined one and always knowing each lifetime would ultimately end with her alone. But destiny hasn't forgotten her. Drawn to the seductive Amon, Thea quickly becomes a pawn the Council uses to trap him. Taken prisoner by the sadistic leader of the rebel group, the Soren, Thea must survive the vicious world of the people hell-bent on taking her destined one away forever, and Amon must risk everything dear to him to free her from those who would sacrifice her to claim the bigger prize and return him to Nil.

I loved the idea of having Destined Ones and reading about them with all their special gifts/abilities made this book original and very intriguing. I just found the second part a little bit too quick, with a few predictable events, but then lots of romance and great sex are what really dominates this book and you can only enjoy every moment of it, right?

Amon is an handsome character with clearly an amazing charm that totally captures you from the beginning, but what I really loved about him it's his past. We discover a few things about his not-so-friendly behaviour and a completely absence of loyalty to women thanks to flashes from his past, and the curiosity to know more and more about the fragments of these events are thrilling. Of course the Amon of the present has changed and there are some very touching moments with Thea and Gethen as well that let you appreciate him for what he is now, but still that dangerously charming Amon from the past is who really excited me the most. That's why now I want to read the first book of this series very badly, Stolen Destiny, and enjoy this amazing character even more, because a bad guy is not always bad to read about!

"Hit List" by Laurell K. Hamilton

SERIES: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #20

GENRE: Urban Fantasy
SOURCE: Purchased
LINKS: Goodreads | Book Depository

My name is Anita Blake. The vampires call me 'The Executioner'. After a series of gruesome murders in the Pacific Northwest, the local police call me in and fellow US Marshal Edward to track down a serial killer they are convinced must be a 'monster'. But I know that some monsters are very real. The Harlequin are a secret so dark, even to speak their name can earn you a death sentence. Now they're here, hunting weretigers and a human police. And me. The Harlequin serve the Mother of All Darkness, the first vampire. Back from the dead, she's determined to kill Edward and to possess me. And she doesn't care how many others have to die along the way.

I'm always over-excited when I get to read an Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series book, and I admit I was particularly curious about this release because I read many people saying this instalment could have been a sort of ending. But to be honest I haven't felt that way at all. Of course there are some events that close a big part of the series, but thing is that I would have been disappointed with a end like that, because from my point of view it was a too fast and easy closure for something so big and unique. Plus, there weren't all the special men we so love as much as Anita does (ok, perhaps she does more but still!) and could you really imagine not having the possibility to "see" them once more and say a proper goodbye? I don't know about you but I hope from the bottom of my heart that goodbye is far, far away...

Speaking of men, there's a new entry here and a really lovely one! Ethan isn't just handsome (go figure!), he's simply adorable! He definitely has something special that keeps you attracted to him, and not just in a physical way. I seriously would have taken him home with me in an instant! But then which man of this series would I dare not having at home with me, huh?

"Hit List" is an amazing 20th instalment of one of the most powerful series ever, and despite someone could feel this book like an ending to the series, trust me, something terribly dangerous has just taken form...

"Darkness Rising" by Keri Arthur

SERIES: Dark Angels #2

GENRE: Urban Fantasy
SOURCE: Publisher
LINKS: Goodreads | Book Depository

Risa will go to any lengths to avenge her mother's murder—even if it means making a pact with the most evil vampire she's ever met. Lethal and powerful, Madeline Hunter is leader of the vampire council and will put her resources behind finding the killer—for a price. The venerable vampire requires the assistance of Risa's psychic powers. Quid pro quo. Someoneor something—is targeting the elders of the local council, cursing the immortal vampires to rapidly age, sink into madness and die. Risa must track down the vengeful being responsible. But Risa's father, a rogue Aedh priest, also enlists her in a dangerous mission. And not even the great Madeline Hunter may be able to protect her from the shadowy forces that desire nothing less than Risa's destruction.

A powerful vampire who is very difficult to stand, people in search of the keys who keep appearing from nowhere, friends who could be in a very dangerous situation and some very attractive men who give you chills everywhere... I don't know about you, but those are definitely some reasons why I fall in love with a book!

Speaking of men, I had a crush on Lucian, he's unquestionably handsome and in the previous book he had a charming attitude that in some way reminded me of Quinn, but here I was upset (I admit it, even intrigued) to find him a character so not to be trusted... I'm totally keeping my eyes well open from now on with him... On the contrary, Azriel was charming at the beginning, amazing in the middle and then pure-awesomness in the end! Of course he still has a mystery halo, but let's face it, isn't it one of the main reasons why we girls are so attracted to a how-gorgeous reaper/dark angel? And what if he starts having a flirting attitude? Wouldn't that chemistry with Risa be even more enjoyable to read about? No, it's even more pleasurable than you're thinking, trust me!

I'm so pleased Keri Arthur decided to write this amzing spin-off and I totally can't wait for the third book to arrive with (I hope) more Rohan moments that are something really priceless!

"Pure" by Jennifer L. Armentrout

SERIES: Covenant #2

PUBLISHER: Spencer Hill Press
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Publisher
LINKS: Goodreads | Book Depository

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome—especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom—so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdawn with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do—and sacrifice—for her. When Daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the Gods send Furies—lesser Gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the Gods, and that includes the Apollyon... And Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... Or killing her.

When I finished "Pure" all I said was: Un-freaking-believable! But it was too soon to talk about it so, now that the release date is exactly a month away, I'm pretty sure you demand to know more about that statement, huh? Well, two are the main reasons. One, you can't imagine any event that happens and trust me, they all get you on a very emotional level. Two, the author made clearly difficult to root for a specific team...

I always been an Aiden girl and in the first instalment I couldn't stand Seth very much, to be completely honest I almost hated him... Then Spencer Hill Press sent me Pure ARC and it was the beginning of a big, huge battle with myself... Believe me when I say that my heart never left Aiden for a minute, but gosh if my body responded to Seth every second! Mix a constant flirting and a strong sensuality together and you can see a third of what I saw in Seth. I can't stop having chills because of him, especially thanks to all the OMG-do-you-want-to-kill-me-with-those-scenes!? Dear Jennifer, how dare you letting me dream of Seth like this? *sigh* Anyway, my love for Aiden is always there and the fact that I giggle like an idiot just at the thought of him it's a strong proof of how much power this amazing character has on me and yes, I would dare to say on all of you as well, girls!

The whole book is captivating, funny, sensual, full of action, emotional and if I was in love with "Half-Blood", with this second instalment it was totally "Pure" passion!
