In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King’s Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the boundaries of the truce by seeking out Apostle, a leader in the dreck community. Micah wants Apostle to kill him, a request Apostle is more than happy to fulfill. When ex-Army medic Samantha Garrett inadvertently disrupts the plot and saves Micah’s life, a chain reaction sets Micah’s heart on a collision course with Sam’s, but he will have to protect her from Apostle and her obsessive ex-husband, Steve, if they will have a chance at forever. Can Micah hold his emotions together to keep Sam alive?

This book, as the series in general, was so well praised to me by a blogger, that I couldn't help but give it a go and what a pleasant read it has been. So far my experience with free eBooks has not been great but, in this case, it all went unexpectedly well and just for that this book deserves an applause!

The read is fast paced and a very quick one but not for that less seductive than others. We may have just a brief description of the whole background, but what we learn is enough to keep our attention alive and our curiosity at high levels. It's not like we need too much information to understand what's going on after all and surely more explanations and important reveals will see the light with longer novels during the series, so I'm not disappointed but intrigued. "Rise of the Fallen" presents a series of potential interesting characters with attractive bodies, strong attitudes and very captivating desires from which choosing could prove to be a difficult challenge... Of course, Micah is the main male character here and that doesn't go unnoticed (nope, it certainly does not!) but that doesn't mean you can't experience other, er, distractions... M/M alert? Oh-boy-yes!

A compelling, hot read that definitely convinced me to buy book two and that's what a free read should always do.

  1. I had lots of disappointments with freebies but this one was a very nice surprise and I really liked the writing style as well. Hope you enjoy the read, Lily!

  2. And I'm really glad you so strongly recommend this to me. I honestly wasn't expecting to find myself so compelled, but that's exactly what happened. I feel the NEED to read Severin & Arion's book asap and I hope to be able to catch up with the rest before October 31st, it would be a good way to celebrate Halloween! ;)

  3. Ooh yes a VERY good way to celebrate Halloween. So I guess we'll be celebrating it together then if you manage to read them by then. Severin and Arions book is pretty intense! I loved it even more than this one. It's very well done.

  4. It's words such as intense that make me want to pick it up badly... Fingers crossed I can cope with the schedule so that we're going to have a precious Halloween!

  5. Oooh this sounds interesting, most of the freebies I've grabbed lately are misses, so I'll check this one out.

  6. I'm so glad you liked this. I was pleasantly surprised too. After getting it free from amazon, I had it sitting in my kindle app for a while. Then I saw a review in my feed on goodreads so I had to investigate. I'm sooooo glad I did because I really enjoyed it. And in my opinion, they just get better. I'm waiting for book 4 now which is out on 31st October! Can't wait. Great review and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the other books :0)
