"The King" by J.R. Ward

THE KING BY J.R. WARD

SERIES: Black Dagger Brotherhood #12
PUBLISHER: Piatkus
GENRE: Paranormal Romance
SOURCE: Publisher
LINKS: Goodreads | Book Depository

SUMMARY
After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumes his father's mantle—with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sits heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything—and everyone—at risk. Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure-blooded vampire on the planet: an easy ride it was not. But when she decides she wants a child, she's unprepared for Wrath's response—or the distance it creates between them. The question is, will true love win out...or tortured legacy take over?

MY REVIEW

I don't have problems reading multiple POVs, and I'm certainly used to the ones in the BDB series, but this time I have to say that they have given me a bit of a rough time. It's not because I couldn't keep up with them all, it's because I was pushed in the middle of many plots and all of a sudden left to wonder...a bit too much.

I also figured something along the road, but I did enjoy it anyway and I particularly loved the past and present connection, so amazingly well executed that it made me go emotional all the way. Of course, the various couples in here with their different and all overwhelming issues helped the tears running free. Kudos to Lassiter for the break! How I missed him and how he oh-boy-I-started-laughing-so-hard-I-could-barely-breathe cracked me up. Thank goodness I was at home while reading or there would have been people looking at me in a weird way... I do hope with all my heart that he's going to get his own book one day, perhaps there's nothing I crave more for this series. Perhaps. But I should mention another character, too. Who is it? iAm. Huh, you and me both. Still, he has been quite a great surprise and I'm not sure what J.R. Ward is 'cooking' for him, but it smells good...

After many laughs, tears and a warm feeling still spreading through my heart, I'm now anxiously waiting for the next instalment. It can't get here fast enough!

RATING: 4/5

  8. It may not have been one of my favourite instalments, but it had lots of many great things going on and its characters ended up enlighten my dreams as usual. This series is amazing, touching, fun and seductive. I hope you'll start reading it soon, Chanzie!

  9. Great review, Silvia! I agree with you about all the different POVs, I wish there had been less about two particular people, because they too us away from Wrath and the mansion too much.

Lassiter is a hoot, and he always allows for some comic relief :)

    Enjoy your weekend!

  10. For me it's not that, I loved every single POV and I'm honestly not upset because I was taken away from Wrath or the mansion, but because too many resolutions didn't take place. I understand keeping us waiting and on the edge is a great move, but we could have had at least one more closure one the road... You know what I mean? It's kind of frustrating this way. Still, I enjoyed the book nevertheless ;)

    Have a wonderful weekend, Lexxie!

  11. Yes, more resolutions would have been nice, but I was more upset about all of those other POVs. I loved getting to know IAm better, and he was at the mansion, so it made sense.
