Life of a Blogger: Sports I've Played

Life of a Blogger is a weekly feature hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat.
Every week we talk about a non-bookish topic, so that we get to know each other on a more personal level.

This week's topic: SPORTS YOU'VE PLAYED

As much as I love reading and staying at home, you'd be surprised to know that I wasn't always like that...

I started swimming when I was very young and did it for many years. Water has always been something essential like air for me, I was a natural swimmer and a pretty great one, so much that my coach wanted to train me for The Olympics (no kidding!). However, my shyness always prevented me from saying yes, with much disappointment from more than one instructor who saw a real potential winner in me. *Now that I'm older, I see my mistake!* Unfortunately, when I was in secondary school, our gym instructor used to bring us in a swimming pool once a week, where there was way too much chlorine that created some issues. Every time my eyes burned like hell and I often had to come right back at home. It was annoying (not really because I could skip school, LOL) and after a while I had to quit going altogether. Thank God for the sea!

Through my swimming years, I also played soccer in a mixed team. To be honest with you, we were just three girls, but as good as the boys and we had great fun together and in our tournaments!

I've also started playing volleyball in secondary school and also in high school. I loved it!

You see, I may just exercise at home now, but I 'played' my part in more than one sport and I don't regret anything. On the contrary, I cherish each experience with all my heart :)

Very cool. My best friend was a competitive swimmer for years and still loves to talk about how much she enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing!

  2. We had a pool and I swam before I walked, in school I played field hockey. I loved roller skating too, although now I would probably kill myself or end up in traction! Now I walk and listen to audio books. *i like to live dangerously*

  3. WOW, that's awesome, Silvia! I played handball for quite a while when I was younger, mostly because some of my close friends played :D I was always a bookworm, and a bandgeek, too.

  8. I can't see anything wrong with 'geeky activities'. Besides those sports, I've always been living in a wonderful world in my head and had a pencil in my hand all the time. So, a bookworm and a band geek sounds like a perfect friend to me! :)

  9. Yeah, the chlorine issue has been bad and kind of depressing :( Indeed, YAY for the Ocean, or better the Sea in my case! :)

  12. Oh wow! You were like a fish then. That is amazing! To bad you didn't give it a go anyway. But I understand. I wasn't much for soccer, but I enjoyed backyard volleyball as I didn't make the school team with knee troubles. I did softball when I was younger, should have kept with it but didn't.

    All is cool!

  16. Wow! The Olympics?? Yes, hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it? I think it's great you played at so many sports, Silvia. I played soccer and softball. But it's been years since I played any sports. I mostly run and hike now. :)
