"The Selection" by Kiera Cass

SERIES: The Selection #1
PUBLISHER: HarperCollins
GENRE: Dystopian
SOURCE: Borrowed

In a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels THE SELECTION is the chance of a lifetime: to compete for gorgeous Prince Maxon's heart. But for America Singer it means turning her back on her secret love, and leaving home for a prize she doesn't want. Then America meets Maxon and all her plans start to crumble. Can the life she's always dreamed of compare to a future she never imagined?

One of those series I've heard so much about but didn't get the chance to try until now, after my best friend put her collection box under my nose. Apparently, it was something I needed to read. Obviously, she was right!

If you like fairytales and TV shows, you're in for quite a treat with this dark version of Cinderella going to The Bachelor that turns into The Hunger Games. Come on, how twisted is that? I finished this book in hours and, surprisingly, I didn't get bothered by the love triangle situation, but got a bit annoyed by how easily some people can dismiss and forgive certain things. Nevertheless, my reading never slowed down and my curiosity grew with every chapter. During THE SELECTION you don't just get to know the contestants—with their different attitudes and motives—and spend time with the royal family, you get caught up into dangerous attacks from groups of rebels. Could it be they want more than you think? And if so, what is it that they seek SO much?

I honestly had a great time with this book, the writing flew well and there was always something that compelled me to keep reading. And with how things (not) ended, I'll have to read more!
