FairyLoot April Unboxing: Dreams & Wishes

If you were dreaming of another FairyLoot unboxing, your wish has just been granted!

I had a real blast with my March unboxing, I think that box is potentially my fave so far and it's probably going to be hard to top off. However, this subscription box never fails to deliver great things, and I can honestly say—as predicted—I found something of my liking in this month's theme: DREAMS & WISHES.

Close your eyes, make a wish, and let's see if it comes true . . .

"The Retribution of Mara Dyer" by Michelle Hodkin

THE RETRIBUTION OF MARA DYER BY MICHELLE HODKIN

SERIES: Mara Dyer #3
PUBLISHER: Simon Pulse
GENRE: YA Paranormal
SOURCE: Gifted

SUMMARY
Mara Dyer had no idea that it would end like this. She desperately wants to believe that there's more to the lies she's been told and doesn't stop to think about where her quest for the truth might lead. She never gave much thought before to how far she would go for vengeance, but with loyalties betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and when fate and chance collide it seems the time for retribution has arrived.

MY REVIEW

Have you ever suffered from a book hangover? It's bad, isn't it? And yet, it's something every reader hopes to experience at least once in their life. Might be the masochist in us, or the dreamer, sometimes it's hard to differentiate them. Nevertheless, I got mine thanks to Mara Dyer & her 'gang'.

I can't believe my time with this trilogy has come to an end, but I'm also really pleased with how things wrapped up, and thankful for every minute I spent in the company of such freaking unique characters. I laughed, hard, which seems impossible to do considering the extreme danger faced here and the actions people take in order to survive/escape yet, I dare you to contain a laugh here and there! I loved this as much as I loved how screwed up this story is. You think you have figured out something just to have that taken away a few pages (moments?) later. However, the same question accompanies you through the whole journey... Who the hell is the bad guy? When Michelle Hodkin points that out and you read the very end, an 'I'll be damned' and a smirk on your face will hit you. BAM! Book hangover.

Creepy, funny, and addictive. My only regret is to have waited so long to read the books, so to fans of YA, paranormal and yes, even horror stories, I'd suggest to go grab the trilogy and get the creeps out of it!

"My Husband the Stranger" by Rebecca Done

MY HUSBAND THE STRANGER BY REBECCA DONE

SERIES: Stand-alone
PUBLISHER: Penguin
GENRE: Contemporary Fiction
SOURCE: Publisher

SUMMARY
When Molly married Alex Frazer, she knew it was for ever. Theirs would be the perfect future. But a terrible injury after a night out leaves Alex with permanent brain damage. In a single moment the man she married is transformed into someone new. Someone who has forgotten how to love her. And someone Molly isn't sure she can ever love again. The Alex she married no longer exists. Even with his twin brother Graeme willing to help, Molly isn't sure she can go on. How can she stay married to a man she doesn't know? Should she let the future she dreamed of slip through her fingers? And what really happened on the night that turned her husband into a stranger?

MY REVIEW

Sometimes you just need a different read, one that makes you reflect on something you really don't think about—like ever unless you find yourself living it—and feel the struggle that, in the end, makes you appreciate the little things even more. And be grateful for the life you got.

Put yourself in Molly's shoes and think how such a very sad and tragic scenario would affect you and your life. It's not easy at all and it's hard to judge Molly for her thoughts, insecurities, and even her behaviour. If a part of you wants to encourage her to do what is good for her, the other part probably feels bad by wanting her to take a step back. What's the right thing to do? Is there really one? I believe it takes a lot of courage and strength, mostly mentally, to face a situation like this and try to make the best out of it. Not just for you, but for your husband as well. It was definitely a thoughtful read, I would have just loved the twist to be less predictable and not so easily dismissed, but I still kept turning the pages and live/feel both Alex and Molly's journey.

If you're up for an in-depth story, this book might be a good fit for you. Personally, I'm glad I took the opportunity to read it, now I'd honestly be curious to read more about this author.

Waiting on Wednesday (#44)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine
in which we have the opportunity to spotlight upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week's pick: THE TRAITOR'S KISS by Erin Beaty
Expected publication: May 9thth, 2017 by Imprint

An obstinate girl who will not be married.
A soldier desperate to prove himself.
A kingdom on the brink of war.

With a sharp tongue and an unruly temper, Sage Fowler is not what they’d call a lady―which is perfectly fine with her. Deemed unfit for marriage, Sage is apprenticed to a matchmaker and tasked with wrangling other young ladies to be married off for political alliances. She spies on the girls―and on the soldiers escorting them.

As the girls' military escort senses a political uprising, Sage is recruited by a handsome soldier to infiltrate the enemy ranks. The more she discovers as a spy, the less certain she becomes about whom to trust―and Sage becomes caught in a dangerous balancing act that will determine the fate of her kingdom.

With secret identities, a tempestuous romance, and a plot full of intrigue, The Traitor’s Kiss is Jane Austen with an espionage twist.

What do you think? And what are you waiting for?
