Be on Santa's Nice List this Christmas!

Last week, a group of lovely authors released a self-published anthology of fiction and poetry I had the pleasure to design the cover for!

There's always something special when you touch a book you gave your contribution to with your own hands, and this one might be even more since it's a Charity Anthology released to help promote literacy. Interested yet? Let me see if I can indulge you in Darkness . . .

Dark Company II is a collection of original work inspired by the theme “dark”. Suitable for a mature audience, it ventures into dangerous places, tainted hearts, wicked deeds, and introduces sinister souls. From the concept of death to food on a plate, each piece provides plenty on which to ponder. Spanning several genres, there’s something to suit all tastes.

You gotta admit that sounds like a pretty intriguing premise, doesn't it? And all proceeds go directly to buildOn, a movement dedicated to promoting literacy in the world’s most impoverished areas.

So why don't you be extra nice this Christmas? Head over to Amazon and buy a book that will also help others, this world can never have enough of good people like YOU.

THANK YOU <3

A fresh new contemporary romance from New York Times and USA Today bestseller Roni Loren that will rock your world.

Which means Liv seeing former star-athlete and old flame Finn Dorsey. A lot happened between them that night and Liv is ready to end their decade-long riff and move on. New glasses call for new books!

Hello regular & new readers of my blog :)

Hope you are all more than well! I've been taking my reading slow lately because I kept experiencing some discomfort with my eyes and developing very unpleasant headaches . . . Do not worry, though, I should be fine soon. I had an eye test appointment last week, apparently I needed new reading glasses. My eyesight has always been perfect (yay!), but I always had to wear glasses to relax my vision—you'd be surprised how much that reduces my headaches—and protect my eyes when I read and I'm front of the computer. So, knowing me and what I do, that means basically almost every moment of the day, right? :P

My new glasses will be ready this Saturday, so I'll finally be able to enjoy my fave form of escapism by the end of the week, YES!

In the meantime, anyone feels like recommending me some books? Any of your faves—old or new—you think I should try? Stand-alones, series, novellas . . . Leave a comment and I'll be more than happy to check them out, you know my darkest sins weaknesses ;)

This week's pick: SHADOW GIRL by Liana Liu
Expected publication: December 19th, 2017 by Harper Teen

The house on Arrow Island is full of mystery.

Yet when Mei arrives, she can’t help feeling relieved. She’s happy to spend the summer in an actual mansion tutoring a rich man’s daughter if it means a break from her normal life—her needy mother, her delinquent brother, their tiny apartment in the city. And Ella Morison seems like an easy charge, sweet and well behaved.

What Mei doesn’t know is that something is very wrong in the Morison household.

Though she tries to focus on her duties, Mei becomes increasingly distracted by the family’s problems and her own complicated feelings for Ella’s brother, Henry. But most disturbing of all are the unexplained noises she hears at night—the howling and thumping and cries.

Mei is a sensible girl. She isn’t superstitious; she doesn’t believe in ghosts. Yet she can’t shake her fear that there is danger lurking in the shadows of this beautiful house, a darkness that could destroy the family inside and out…and Mei along with them.

The Memory Key author Liana Liu delivers a thrilling story of one girl struggling to claim her own identity while becoming an unwitting participant in the strange fate of a wealthy dynasty.

"Only Enchanting" by Mary Balogh

ONLY ENCHANTING BY MARY BALOGH

SERIES: The Survivors' Club #4
PUBLISHER: Piatkus
GENRE: Historical Romance
SOURCE: Publisher

SUMMARY
Flavian, Viscount Ponsonby, was devastated by his fiancĂ©e’s desertion after his return home. Now the woman who broke his heart is back—and everyone is eager that they revive their engagement. Except Flavian, who, in a panic, runs straight into the arms of the nearest young woman. Agnes Keeping has never been in love—and never wishes to be. But then she meets the charismatic Flavian, and suddenly Agnes falls so foolishly and so deeply that she agrees to his impetuous proposal of marriage. When Agnes discovers that the proposal is only to avenge his former lover, she's determined to flee. But Flavian has no intention of letting his new bride go, especially now that he too has fallen so passionately and so unexpectedly in love...

MY REVIEW

I can't believe it's been three years since the last time I read one of The Survivors' Club series books, but Mary Balogh manages to transport her readers in the lives of these broken heroes like we actually never left, so my interest was immediately piqued once more.

It's easy to follow Flavian's story and feel for him and his situation. The tragic event that changed him—and the course of his life—together with all he had to endure certainly make one sympathise with him, and also hope he gets some sort of 'revenge'... I honestly didn't see his proposal like a forced one, nor made to avenge his former lover, but I did find it happening too quickly and I think that is the reason why it was a bit hard to connect with the heroine of the story. Also, the chemistry between the couple is there and yet, I couldn't feel completely invested by Flavian and Agnes' passion. There was just something that made me stop reading from time to time—unusual for me with Balogh's books—but the last few chapters got me going, and I appreciated Agnes showing some character in the end.

Although this was my least favourite instalment—so far—in this lovely series, I'm glad I read it because I genuinely want to know how each of the Survivors' Club members find their happiness. If you pick the first book up, you'll probably want just the same.

RATING: 3/5
